Our third deliverable in the Horizon 2020 project European Media Platforms: assessing positive and negative externalities for European Culture (EuMePlat) is “Milestones in European Media Policies and Legislation, 1990-2020”.
The report recounts the developments of media law and funding measures in Europe. The first third of the research period was focussed on audio-visual media, while from 2000 onwards, the focus shifted to platform regulation. It covers the television instrument from the Television without Frontiers Directive (1989) to the most recent Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD 2018) and fields of law including copyright, telecommunications and data protection. It concludes with some remarks on the future of the European digital public sphere. A brief summary of the report is available here on the project blog.
